Meet Our Marketing & Design Interns

Written By Melissa Carrick & The Interns

Ever wonder how the office fridge gets stocked, who’s taking out the trash and when lunch will be here? Just ask the interns! Beyond keeping our office up and running, our marketing and design interns have contributed so much young talent to our agency this summer and we’re going to miss them. So, in honor of #NationalInternDay, learn more about their internship with us!

Tell us about yourself…

Baylie: Hello, I am Baylie Horvath and I am AR Marketing’s Graphic Design Intern. I am a 4th year at Bowling Green State University where I study graphic design and video in the Visual Communication Technology program. On my days off, I enjoy shopping at local consignment stores, working out, bartending at SRGC, hanging out with my family, or getting drinks with the gals. You can also find me creating fun graphics for myself to expand my portfolio and keep the creative juices flowing outside of work.

Alex: My name is Alex Mutchler, I am from Bucyrus, Ohio and I am currently in my 3rd year at the University of Findlay. I am double majoring in sports business strategy and marketing. Outside of work I am a pole-vaulter and hurdler on the UF track team. I also enjoy spending time with my family, playing cornhole, volleyball, and going fishing.

What made you want to intern at AR Marketing?

Baylie: The thing that first attracted me to AR is how nonchalant the communication was. As soon as I got an email from the Creative Director with the subject “Sup Baylie” I thought “Is this real?”. College taught me all about professionalism and it is cool to see how AR represents themselves professionally as well as being personable.

Alex: AR first caught my interest when I saw how relaxed and enjoyable the environment was. What really made me want to intern here is the balance between getting work done and having fun in the process.

What is your role at AR?

Baylie: I am the graphic design intern! I get to work with our whole team, learn all about what they do, and of course create cool graphics for our clients! You can often find me running errands, dropping off recycling, picking up groceries, and ordering lunch.

Alex: At AR I am the digital intern which includes copywriting for social media, texting, digital ads and more. I also help edit videos, organize processes for the team and help build reporting templates for our clients.

What do you like most about your internship?

Baylie: Working at AR has been very reassuring to me when entering the graphic design industry. Everyone here is happy, innovative, and knowledgeable about what they do. I get to come in every day and learn something new, and I couldn’t have asked for a better workplace to begin my career as a graphic designer.

Alex: I have learned so much from everyone in the office. They are all so knowledgeable in marketing. Every day I am learning something new that helps me grow and helps the office progress.

What is something you learned as an intern?

Baylie: I have learned the most about the grocery industry and how that applies to the graphics we create. Before coming to AR, I was terrible at using Adobe InDesign. Using this every day to produce weekly ads has been a big adjustment but overall taught me a lot more about the software.

Alex: My favorite thing I’ve learned would have to be video editing. I knew a little bit about it coming into my internship, but my knowledge has expanded a lot through my projects for our clients. I also enjoy learning about different software and tools that are used for messaging, posting, and tracking analytics.

What is something you taught others or contributed to the agency?

Baylie: I have been able to work on expanding AR’s personal social channels in a fun, creative way - REELS! Check out our Instagram where you can see videos like stocking our refrigerator/snack drawer, client visits, and the team’s favorite emoji’s!

Alex: I was able to organize our general content library to make it easier for social media managers to find inspiration and have relevant content to post when they need it.

Tell us about your favorite projects…

Baylie: My favorite project so far has been working on general social media content. For these, I create social graphics for national holidays like Father’s Day, Salad Month, Hot Dog Day, and many more! These are my favorite because I get to work in Illustrator to produce artwork that is most relative to my own design style.

Alex: One of my favorite projects so far was learning the reporting software and creating a template for the end of month social reports. It was hard and took some time, but it was awesome to see it all come together to create an organized report for our clients.

Tell us about the good times…

Baylie: My favorite memory at AR so far was our Cinco de Mayo party. That was a fun day because everyone was in the office for a team potluck party! Nothing like friendly conversation, yummy food, and good music.

Alex: So far it was a coworker’s going away party. The games we played and the smiling faces. But the cherry on top was the piñata with the bouncy balls!

What’s next for you?

Baylie: As for my next steps….do I really have to think about that? I am focused on obtaining my degree in December and hopefully continuing to work with the amazing people at AR. On the side, I am looking forward to starting my own freelancing business, growing on social media, and seeing where that takes me!

Alex: Finishing my senior year of college at The University of Findlay. I am still planning out where I will be after graduation.
